The story goes that when Bessie Lee Dodd Royer was giving birth her husband Carl Nevel was out of town. So she went ahead and named the son Charles Berney Royer. Well when Carl returned he hated the name and refused to call his son by that name. He called him Kenneth. All thru his life he thought his name was Kenneth until he joined the army and was told his real name was Charles Berney. Until the day he died Carl called him Kenneth. On the 1930's census record it lists him as Kenneth N. The family story is that his middle name was Nathan. So Charles Berney Royer and Kenneth Nathan Royer are in fact the same person.

Subject: First Battle of the Naktong Bulge
The first Battle of the Naktong Bulge was fought from August 5 through the 19. Charles went missing during this battle when the NKPA 4th Division forced three crossing of the Naktong River line.The unit envolved were the 24th Infantry Division and the ROK 17th Infantry Regiment. With the help of the Marine Brigade and Two Carrier based Corsair Squadrons the NK 4th was forced back across the Naktong River and this battle eliminating them as a fighting force they did not reapear as a fighting force till after the Chinese Communist Force enter the War.On the 2 July 1950 the 34th enter the war with 1,989 men in the regiment some time after the 20 july a muster roll call was held only 184 men answered to their they names.They lost 1,714 men in that time frame.
MIA in Korea. Declared dead 1957. Mother bought this spot and place a headstone with Royer on it just incase he was ever returned he would have a place to rest beside her.
