After more than two months illness the gentle spirit of Mrs. Sylvester Odom winged its flight to realms of immortaliy.
Death came to her as an angel of peace for being unafraid and thoroughly prepared she entered the valley of deep shadows with an assurance of comfort and calm that is experienced only by the children of God.
Mrs. Sylvester H. Odom was born near Sardis, Ga., in 1845, July 24th. She was Miss Henrietta Ellison before her marriage, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ellison.
She was married to Sylvester Odom on April 7th, 1880.
She joined Sardis Baptist church early in life, and her membership was never moved.
She died in the early morning hours of April the 22nd, and was buried on the afternoon of April23rd, at Sardis church at 5 o'clock. The funeral was conducted by her pastor Rev. Olive.
Mrs. Odom leaves a husband, Mr. Odom, one daughter, Mrs. Hamilton Blount, one step daughter, Mrs. Bass Buxton, one step son, J. T. Odom, two sisters; Mrs. Nancy Glisson, of Sardis, Ga., Mrs. Jorama Stephens, of Millen, Ga., one brother, G. W. Ellison, of Augusta, Ga., and many friends and neighbors to mourn her death.
Mrs. Odom was a strong, true Christain, and was deeply interested in the Kingdom of her Savior. She has left to her loved ones a beautiful heritage and the influence of her good deeds and consecrated life will continue like the waves of the mighty ocean rolling on until they break on the further shore. The memory of her life shall never fade.
