Herbert Lee Shipman, son of the late William J. and Frocy Grogens Shipman, was born February 7, 1905 near Dexter and died Friday, October 4, 1991 at his home on Star Route, Dexter at the age of 86.

Mr. Shipman had spent all his life in Stoddard County, where he was a farmer. He was a very active member of the Mt. Gilead "Hills" General Baptist Church.

On December 11, 1926 he was married to Joyce McClard and she survives of the home near Dexter.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Alene Matthews of Cape Girardeau, Nadine McConnell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Marjorie Clay of Philadelphia, Mississippi; one brother, Robert Shipman of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Ruth Ellege of Chaffee; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were one son, Lee Shipman; one daughter, Carolyn Vandeven.

Visitation was held on Saturday evening in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. today (Sunday) in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield, with Rev. Robert Lafferty of Advance and Rev. Berlin Harper of Bernie officiating. Burial will follow in the Hills Cemetery near Bloomfield, all under the direction of Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home.
