Marcia Amelia Barker Luther, was born in Conneaut, Ashtabula County Ohio. At the time of her birth, her parents were living in Girard, Erie County, Pennsylvania. Her mother was Achsah Cecillia Trowbridge Barker, her father was Samuel Barker. Her mother died at age 30, in 1850, and Marcia and her sister were raised by family members in Spring, Erie County, Pa. Marcia married Daniel Webster Luther in Girard, in 1862. Marcia was a baptized Methodist, and raised several children. As with many women during her time, she lost a number of children at very young ages.
