Jacob was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina on 4 October 1804. In 1825, he married Abigail Hunter, the daughter of William Hunter and Catherine DeLoach, also from Barnwell County. Abigail was born on August 22, 1811. They had fifteen children, the first six were born in South Carolina and the last nine were born in Georgia.

Gravesite Details

At first glance, the marker appears to say that Abigail was 31 when she died, conflicting with her stated birth or death dates. However, closer examination does show that the marker says 51 years.
