Alvin served as a Private in Company I of the 58th Indiana Infantry volunteers during the Civil War. This regiment served in Tennessee and with Sherman's march to the sea in Georgia. He was mustered in at Petersburg, December 16, 1861, at age 15. Wounded were recorded at the battles of Stone's river in Lavergne, Tullahoma and Missionary Ridge. As well, they were fired on during bridge construction with Sherman. The regiment survived the winter of 1863 without tents or provisions. Alvin mustered out July 25, 1865, as a veteran.

After the war, he farmed. Married Matilda Morgan September 23, 1866. 1880 census shows both still living in Jefferson. Alvin moved to Campbell, Dunklin County, Missouri in the late 1880s with son Alfred and daughter Ella. Shortly after, they moved to the Supply, Arkansas area. Later, he married Myra Rapert. Had son Tom and daughter Dolly

fromContributor: sonya (fulcher): Alvin was the son of Henry and Rhoda (Fowler) Pride, and was born in Pike County, Indiana. I have been unable to locate death records or a grave site for either of his parents, but I believe his mother died in 1851 or 1852. His father, Henry, was still in Jefferson Township, Pike County, IN with his second wife in 1880, the last record I've found for him.
Alvin and his wife Matilda lived in Jefferson Township, Pike County, IN in 1880 (not in Jefferson) right next door to his brother (my 2x great-grandfather), William Thomas Pride.
