According to the coroner's report, an accident occurred while William was foreman for the C&P RR at the Bedford Station. It was agreed that the accident was due to unsafe working conditions; The RR cars were not loaded properly leaving material protruding from them. While coupling two RR cars, William fractured his tibia and fibula. The fractures were near his knee. The exact cause of the fractures was not stated. His injuries occurred (approx.) on the 26th of April at 10:35 PM when the train started and stopped suddenly. His death occurred (approx.) on the 27th of April at 3:15 AM, more than 4 hours later.
Making an assumption based on the facts found in the coroner's report, it is plausible that William suffered damage to his femoral artery and bled to death.
William was the first born son of Ephraim and Almeda of Independence OH. He was the grandson of Thomas and Susan, also of Independence OH. He left behind his wife Elizabeth (nee Carter) of Cleveland, and three daughters: Rose, Wilhelmina (Minnie), and Anna.
William was about 5'9" and of medium build. He had dark hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion.
Buried on top of William, in his unmarked grave, is his youngest daughter Anna McGrew. She died at the age of 26 in June of 1912. Anemia was a main contributer to her death. She left behind husband Harry and three known children: Harvey, Ada, and Samuel.
