Funeral Rites Thursday for Elmer F. Baade (has picture)
Funeral services for Elmer F. Baade, 48, editor of the Works News of the General Electric Company here, who died early Tuesday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Klaehn & Sons Funeral Home.
The Rev. Fred Heldbrink, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate and burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Mr. Baade, who had had high blood pressure for several months, was taken to the hospital last Friday.
He had received national recognition as an editor in the industrial field with General Electric.
He was born in Fort Wayne, the son of the late Henry Baade, a partner in the retail grocery firm of Kayser & Baade. He attended Emmauel Parish Grade School and was graduated from Central High School. After a year of pre-medical study at Indiana University he enlisted in the Army at the start of Worl War I in 1917. He was inducted at Culver Military Academy and trained there and at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis.
After the war, Mr. Baade became editor of the house organ of the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company here. He remained with Lincoln Life for a year after which he served as a reporter for The News-Sentinel for a year and the Journal-Gazette for several years. He left the Journal-Gazette to become advertising manager for the Ovelmo Manufacturing Company, a position he held for five years. Afflicted with tuberculosis, he retired for seven years and after his recovery became associated with the General Electric Company.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Joy Elder Baade, and a son, Eric C., a post-graduate student at South Side High School His sister, Mrs. George Hesemeyer, died for years ago.
He was a member of Emmanuel Church.
