Richard was born to George and Marie Josephine Roland, in Scotland, in 1822. Richard was born in Inverness, Scotland as stated, on the 1860 census. Richard was a Merchant Marine and ships carpenter. He made 7 voyages from Scotland to America. On the last voyage, abt 1844 Richard decided to stay in America. Sailing with his step-brother Robert, it is reported that the boys had a disagreement and Robert Roland changed his last name, not sure to what!
It is thought, that in 1860-61, Richard was a member of the Texas State Troops Mounted Minutemen, in John M. Bronaugh's, 24th Infantry Brigade, in Jackson Co, Tx.. Richard was a rifleman.
Richard married Matilda "Tillie" Jones, Aug. 5 1862, in Caldwell, Burleson, TX.
There were 5 children born to this union:
Unknown
Andrew Jackson b. 1864
Josephene b. 1866
Saphronia b. 1868
Richard Lee "Bud" Rolan, Jr. b. 1869
Somewhere along the line Richard acquired the nickname of "Judge".
In 1871 Richard aquired 384 acres of land, in the Millerton community. The 1910 census shows 3 families living on the Rolan property.
In 1880, using his carpenter skills and working everyday, Judge Richard Rolan was Chief Carpenter for the building of the Pleasant Hill Community Church, of Milam Co. Tx.
Richard died March 6, 1911, in Milam Co., Texas

Note: The family consensus is, that Richard and Matilda Rolan are buried, in the Miller Cem., (Alcoa Property), Milam Co. Because of the fact that they resided at Millerton Comm., from abt. 1862-1920. They also helped build and attended church, in the area and they have a daughter, Josephene Rolan and two grandchildren, buried in Miller Cem.
