Death certificate shows that Charles was both widowed and divorced.
First wife was Lucinda, and she must have died young.
They had about two children: Darthula Dalue Eads (b. Aug 25, 1873) and James A. Smith (b. abt. 1877).
Second wife never appeared on a census with him, but a marriage record was found for Charles F. Smith marrying Donia Kasimeas on 28 Apr 1896 in Wayne Co., MO. According to Gwen, her name was Antonia Kosina and she divorced Charles when their biological child Rosa (born Jan. 19, 1896) was little. She remarried and Rosa used her stepfathers's surname Esterak.
In 1860 Charles was 8 years old and living on a farm owned by his father Alexander and mother Catherine, along with older sister Margaret. Living next door was his uncle Timothy Caleb Smith and family. By 1870 Charles was 19 and continued living on his parents' farm, along with three siblings, Margaret, Alexander and Mary. About 1875, he married Lucinda, and by 1880 they had their own farm next door to his parents, and they had two children, Darthula and James. "1894 Taxpayers of Wayne Co MO" dated 15 Aug 1894 included CF Smith. On Feb. 29, 1896 Darthula married William Franklin Eads Jr. and left home. On June 28, 1896 Charles appeared on the marriage record noted above. However, by 1900 Charles was again living with his parents, but no wife or children were with him. He reported that he had been married for 25 years. Also living in the household were his brother Alexander Wright Smith, his wife Tabitha and daughter Ella C. By 1910, both Alexander (the elder)and Catherine Smith were deceased, and Charles had become head-of-houshold for that farm. He was a widower and lived alone. Living next door was his brother Alexander, Tabitha and three children. Charles died of Tuberculosis in 1914 at age 62.
