Born August 17, 1929 in Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late Sam Costner and Mallie Simpson Costner.
She was a homemaker and a graduate of Cherryville High School.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Ray Costner and Robert "Curly" Costner.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 63 years, William "Will" Sylvester Alexander; two sons, Billy Alexander and wife, Linda and Gerald Alexander and wife, Bonny all of Cherryville; a daughter, Melissa Hovis and husband, Bob of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary C. Horne of St. Petersburg, Fla and Aileen Huffman of Lincolnton.
The Funeral Service will be at 3:30 PM, Saturday at First Baptist Church, Cherryville with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.
Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.
