Father And Mother Die During Week
To Hold Mr. Ahlswede's Funeral Friday Afternoon
Typhoid fever took two casualties in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Ahlswede, Jacksonport, when both parents passed away within a few day's time. Mrs. Ahlswede is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leischow, Sr., of this city.
John Ahlswede, 39, was taken sick with the fever about two months ago. For the past six weeks he had been receiving treatment at St. Vincent's hospital, Green Bay. He died Wednesday morning at 12:45 am and Mrs. Ahlswede died at the Egeland hospital, Sturgeon Bay Monday morning at 12:15 am. Mrs. Ahlswede was ill with typhoid fever complicated by peritonitis.
The remains of Mrs. Ahlswede were brought to Algoma for internment Monday. The body lay in the house of her parents on Freemont Street and funeral services were conducted Wednesday, first from the house at 2 o'clock, and at the English Methodist Church at 2:30. The Rev. Noah Bess and the Rev. Phillips, West Kewaunee, officiated at the ceremony. Interment was made in the Evergreens Cemetery.
Mrs. Ahlswede was born on the old Fred Leischow farm at Kodan in the town of Ahnapee July 10, 1882. She was 45 years at the time of death. in early life she attended the schools of her district.
Last rites for Mr. Ahlswede will be conducted from the house of Louis Leischow, Kodan, Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock and at 2 o'clock from the English Methodist Church in Algoma with the Rev. Noah Bess officiating. Interment will be made in the Evergreens cemetery.
Mr. Ahlswede's occupation during life was a cheesmaker. He was born in the town of Brussels Sept. 1, 1888. His last home was at Jacksonport, although he had resided in several cities, going where he was engaged to produce cheese.
Four children were born to the couple, who, together with the rest of the survivors include: her parent, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leischow, Sr., Algoma; four children, Caroline, Norma, Marion and Clara; six of her brothers, Leonard Leischow, Luxemburg; Fred Leischow, Kewaunee; Gerhart Leischow, Algoma; Louis Leischow, Kodan, Dr. Arthur Leischow, Milwaukee; and Harry Leischow, Kewaunee; and, four sister, Amelia, Manitowoc, Elizabeth, Green Bay; Anna, Wausaukee; and, Alma, Algoma; one brother of Mr. Ahlswede's, August, Manitowoc; and, one sister Mrs. August Schmidtman, Benton Harbor, Mich.
