"TEXAS PIONEER AND VETERAN OF 1861 DIES IN DALLAS - Captain William R. McEntire, 81 years old, pioneer resident of Dallas, died at 11:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 3805 Swiss avenue. His wife, Mrs. Camilia McEntire, was at his bedside at the time of his death. Captain McEntire was born in Georgia in 1839, and married Miss Camilia Burnette of Atlanta, Ga. in 1865, directly after his discharge from the Confederate army. During the war between the States Captain McEntire served as a First Lieutenant in Company A, Ninth Georgia Artillery, and met his future wife while stationed at Atlanta. Shortly after their marriage Captain and Mrs. McEntire moved to Dallas. On Nov. 23, 1915, they celebrated their golden anniversary. Their three children and grandchildren were present at the celebration. Captain McEntire is survived by his widow, three children, Mrs. Leslie Battle Clark of Winston-Salem, N.C.; R.R. McEntire of Colorado, and George H. McEntire of El Rancho, Utah, and five grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at the residence at 10 a.m. tomorrow, the Rev. W.D. Bradfield officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Dallas Lodge No. 760, A.F. & A.M. will have charge of the service at the grave."
