MRS. SARAH ANN COX

Mrs. Sarah Ann Graves Cox, daughter of William and Ann (Ratcliff) Graves was born in Ross county, Ohio, July 18, 1855 and passed away June 22, 1942, in Log Beach, California, were she had made her home with her two daughters for the past three years.

When only six months old, her mother passed on and she was taken into the home of her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Ratcliff, with whom she remained until her marriage to Charles Henry Cox September 10, 1874.

Mr. Cox was the son of Joseph and Catherine Edwards Cox and was s substantial farmer of the Essex township. Following her marriage, which occurred in Chillicothe, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Cox began housekeeping on his farm near Wyoming, Illinois, later on moving to the Joseph Cox homestead where they continued to operate the farm until Mr. Cox passed on August 18, 1906.

Mrs. Cox remained on the farm for a time, purchasing a home in Wyoming, Illinois, where she resided until three years ago when she went to California to visit her daughters.

Descendent is survived by seven children, as follows: Mrs. Florence Nicholas and Mrs. Fannie Gamble of Long Beach, California; Lloyd of Osborn, Missouri, Ralph of Peoria, Arthur of Bradford, Emery and Charles of Wyoming.

Four children, Simon, Bertha, Mrs. Ethel McMillen and Mrs. Fero Powers preceded her in death. There are eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Mrs. Cox is also survived by two brothers, Austin E. Graves of Dodge Center, Minnesota and Oscar E. Graves of Princeville, Ill. Two sisters, Mrs. Martha Cox and Mrs. Cynthia Evans, and two brothers, Sylvester Graves and Thomas Graves, have preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cox were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Gillespie memorial home with Rev. F. H. Ebright, pastor of the Wyoming Methodist church, in charge. Mrs. M. G. Humphrey and Mrs. Dean Winn sang two numbers "Lad Kindly Light" and "Crossing the Bar," with Miss Marian Wilcox as accompanist.

Pallbearers were Messers. M. Ralph Cox, Paul Cox, Earl Cox, Ralph M. Cox, Edwin Cox and Clifford Cox.

Burial was in the Sheets cemetery.
