Evan Holt, sometimes listed as Evan A. Holt, was born 9 January 1762, Tigarth, South Wales. It is not known when he immigrated but it must have been before 1783. He died 24 October 1846, Chester Twp., Morrow County, Ohio. He married Charity McCreary about 1783 but no proof has been found for date or location. She was born 14 September 1764 and died 9 March 1839 and they are buried together at Chester Baptist Cemetery, Morrow County.

1783 Was discharged from the Army.
1789 Evan Holt is found on the Chester County, Pennsylvania Tax Discount Index, 1740-1865 for the year 1789 for East Town, Chester, County, Pennsylvania, page 149 and the reason for the discount is listed as a mistake.
1790 Census shows him in East Town, Chester, Pennsylvania with 1 white male under 16, 2 WM 16 and over, 2 WF, and a total in household of 5.
1804 Ohio, Homestead and Cash Entry Patents, Pre-1908 shows Evan Holt received 100 acres from the Ohio land office on 27 June 1804 according to the Act of 1 June 1796. The land is described as 1ot 25, 4th quarter of T 7, R 15 of US MILITARY SURVEY.
US General Land Office Records, 1776-2015 describes the land as Township 7-N, Range 15-W, Section 4. Signed by Thomas Jefferson.
US War Bounty Land Warrants, 1789-1858 indicates it is Warrant Number 9537.
1808 Ohio, Compiled Census Index shows Evan Holt in Fairfield County, Ohio on a tax list.
A book, A History of Knox County, Ohio 1779-1862 reprinted 1982 by Knox County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society, page 288 states Evan Holt, as a voluntary soldier, served six years; was a native of Chester, PA, emigrated to this county in 1808 and lived for 39 years on land received for his service. He was also a pensioner until his death in his 84th year leaving a large family married and settled around him.
1809 Ohio, Compiled Census Index shows Evan Holt in Knox County, no township listed on a tax list.
A book, History of Morrow County, Ohio by A. J. Baughman, Volume 1, published in 1911 states on page 91, Evan Holt is believed to be the first white settler in this County who came to Chester in 1809. Page 354 states the first settlement within the present limits of Chester was made by the original holder of a military land warrant in 1808. Evan Holt a native of Wales, but a long resident of Chester County, Pennsylvania had served six years in the Revolutionary War.
1810 Ohio, Compiled Census Index shows Evan Holt in Knox County, Wayne Township on a tax list, p. 10.
1811 A book, A History of Knox County, Ohio 1779-1862 reprinted 1982 by Knox County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society, page 112 states Evan Holt was appointed to the Grand Jury, April 1811.
1812 US. War of 1812 Service Records, 1812-1815 shows Even [sic] Holt was inducted and discharged as a Lieutenant with Kratzer’s Command, Ohio.

1819 A book, History of Morrow County, Ohio, edited by Morrow County Historical Book Commission in 1989 mentions on page 13, First Churches – It was constituted on March 19, 1819 with the following members Evan and Charrity [sic] Holt, Margaret Holt, and Thomas McCreary.
1818 Evan Holt from Knox County hired an attorney and gave him power of attorney to help him obtain pension benefits.
Stated he served from June 1778 to August 15, 1783, Private under Captain Ashmood/Ashmitt, Captain Patterson, Captain John Bankson and Colonel Walter Stewart, Pennsylvania. Battles engaged in were Green Springs, and Taking of Cornwallis. Enlisted at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Applied for pension July 24, 1818, age 56.
1820 Federal Census shows Evan Holt in Chester Twp., Knox County, Ohio and listed as 1 White Male age 10-15, 1 WM age 16-25, 1 WM age 45 and over, 1 WF age 10-15, 2 WF age 16-25, 1 WF 45 and over, 1 engaged in agriculture; 2 W under 16, 2 W over 25, total free white persons 7, total all persons – white, slaves, colored, or other is 7.
Evan Holt applied again for pension and said his schedule of property included 100 acres of land granted by Congress for Revolutionary Service being lot 25 in the 4th quarter of Township 7, Range 15, of US Military District, 2 horses, 2 cows old, grubbing hoe, sugar kettle, 1 pot, 1 bake oven, 9 yearlings & calves, 6 sheep, 2 sows & pigs, 1 small skillet, 6 old chairs, plates, knives, forks & spoons, 1 old wagon plough & harrow, my occupation is a common labour but am not able to pursue it constantly to sufficiently support myself. My daughter Martha is 15 and is an idiot and not capable of taking care of herself, and son John is 12 and unable to do much towards supporting himself and wife is 57 and not able to labour.
1828 Evan Holt wrote letter to obtain benefits as a survivor of the Army of the Revolution, having served as a Private. Stated he received a discharge and pension certificate in 1818, number 9979 but was dropped from the pension list because of his property.
Applied to the Treasury Department for benefits for service as Private with Capt. Bankson.
1830 Federal Census shows Even [sic] Ann Holt in Chester Twp., Knox County, Ohio, males 60 thru 69 1, females 10-14 1, females 60-69 1, total free white persons 3.
1831 Chester Baptist Church, Knox County records indicate October 8, 1831, resolved by the church that those members that have left places at the Division have lost their membership fellowship and have not been restored shall have no fellowship until they give satisfaction … their names is Charity Holt, James McCreary, Margaret Clap, … and the names of those that declared disfellowship are Benjamin McCreary and Deborah his wife, James Holt, and John Gwin.
