Lightning Bolt Takes Its Toll of Human Life
Youth of Fourteen Is Instantly Killed in Electrical Storm
Mother Sees Fatal Shock
Was Moving Iron Bed When Bolt Causes Electrocution

A distressing tragedy occurred at Iron City, in the southern end of this county, Thursday afternoon, when Charlie Short, step son of Mr. Claude Adams, was instantly killed when struck by a bolt of lightning.
Particulars surrounding the tragedy were given that during a severe electrical storm last Thursday afternoon, the boy was in the kitchen with Mrs. Adams. She started to move an iron bed into another portion of the room because of a leak in the roof. Young Short told Mrs. Adams that he would move it for her. He had hardly taken hold of the bed, when a bolt struck the tree standing near the house, ran into the iron frame of the bed and killed him instantly. Mrs. Adams, who was standing near, was knocked down and badly shocked, but not seriously injured.
The electrocution occurred about 2 p.m. and witnesses stated that the tree was literally torn to pieces. Burial was at West Point Friday morning.
