Frederica was born September 14, 1820 to Ambrose Bullock and Elizabeth Barbour Claiborne Eubank as the eighth of nine children, and the oldest daughter. Her siblings were Elizabeth M., Philip C., Polly B., Susan A., Catharine C., Achilles, Stephen Barbour., and Achilles S.

On January 14, 1841, Frederica married Jesse Massie in Clark County, Kentucky and together they had nine children, six daughters (Annie, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, Florence, and Emma) and three sons (Phillip, William Ambrose, and Frank).

Frederica passed away October 4, 1872 and is buried next to her husband in the Scarbee Cemetery three miles west of Newcastle in Henry County, Kentucky.
