During World War II, he was a member of the US Army and spent time in France and Germany where he guarded German prisoners of War.
Following the war, he continued to work with his father at the Bakery, but after it closed in 1956, he managed Pearl's Department Store.
On November 1, 1951 he married Suzanne Basmajian in Massenna NY. In 1962 he and his wife opened a menswear store in Potsdam which they ran until 1976 when they both retired.
He was a founding member of Congregation Beth El in Potsdam, and member of the Raquette River Masonic Lodge. A lifelong student of current events and geography, he considered himself a Roosevelt Democrat.
Surviving were a son and his wife, a sister, two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Joseph and Stanley, died before him.
