d/o Jabez and Emily (Kane) Beach

Burial in Cold Springs Cemetery.

The earthly end of a beautiful life came Sunday, August 14, when Mrs. Howard Curtis fell asleep in Jesus. She was the daughter of Jabez and Emily Beach, and was born in Lockport, New York, November 1, 1876. She was married to Howard W. Curtis June 16, 1898. From her earliest years she was lovely in her life and character. To know her was to love her. Retiring and modest in her way she still drew about her a circle of firm friends. In her early girlhood she became converted to Christ and united with the First Congregational Church. Here she wrought earnestly and with consecration in the work of the church and Bible School. After her marriage she united with the Baptist Church and with the same enthusiasm and consecration wrought in the Bible School and Ladies society for Christ. She was an earnest Bible student, her well thumbed Bible evidencing her desire to know and obey the will of God. His promises were dear to her, and in the light of His teaching she sought to live. This gave completeness and beauty to her life and character. She was a faithful friend in need, a helpful counselor in trouble, and a ministering angel in sorrow. She was a futiful child, a kind friend and neighbor, a true sister, and a loving and noble wife. Earth has lost a sweet and helpful spirit, but heaven is richer because of her coming thither; the home will be sad and lonely without her; but the radiance of her life and the echo of her loving words will help to lighten the load and dispel the darkness. Her soul is gone down while it is yet day, but the glory that kisses the clouds at the setting and makes them beautiful with gold and amber and crimson, thrilling our hearts as we gaze upon its beauty, is but typical of the glory that lingers behind her short, but sweet and beautiful life. The memorial services were held at her late home Wednesday afternoon and were largely attended. Her pastor, Will C. Gates officiating, Mrs. Wendell and Mrs. Graham Singing several selections chosen by Mrs. Curtis. Her body was laid to rest in Cold Springs Cemetery. A large number of most beautiful floral pieces showed the hold she had upon the affections and respect of her friends. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and his mother, her father and mother and her sister, Mrs. Rudolph Schultz.
