Sir Robert Wingfield was born circa 1395 at Letheringham, Suffolk. He was the son of Robert Wingfield and his wife Elizabeth Russell. The Manor of Letheringham had been in the Wingfield family since the time of his great grandfather Thomas Wingfield. Sir Robert Wingfield was knighted by King Henry VI in 1426. He served as M.P. from Suffolk from 1427-1439 and Steward for the Duke of Norfolk. Sir Robert Wingfield married Elizabeth Goushill daughter of Sir Robert Goushill and Lady Elizabeth Fitz-Alan about 1420. Sons of Robert Wingfield and Elizabeth Goushill were: Sir John Wingfield who married Elizabeth Fitz-Lewis; Sir Robert Wingfield who married Anne de Harling; Richard Wingfield who married Margaret Baynard; Sir Thomas Wingfield, knighted at the battle of Tewksbury, who married Phillipa Tiptoft & Mary Clifford; William Wingfield (unmarried); and Sir Henry Wingfield, knighted at the battle of Tewksbury, who married Alice Hart & Elizabeth Rokes. Daughters of Sir Robert Wingfield were Elizabeth Wingfield who married Sir William Brandon; Catherine Wingfield who married John Bonvyle; Ann Wingfield who married John Framlingham; and probably two other daughters Margaret & Alice who died young. At the time of Sir Robert Wingfield's death in 1454 his wife Elizabeth Goushill was living. Both were buried in an elaborate tomb with effigies in St. Mary's Church at Letheringham. The tomb was destroyed by neglect and vandalism in the 18th century.Chevalier de Leatherham , Suffolk et membre du parlement. Arrière grand-père de Sylvain Depairon à la 17ieme génération.
