In the Providence Gazette ad regarding claims on his estate, dated 23 Aug 1777, James Arnold, recently deceased, is referred to as Colonel. In the Prov Gazette article under title Legislative Acts/Legal proceedings, 4 Mar 1775, at the Town meeting in Warwick, Kent County, RI, Colonel James Arnold, etal, are chosen as members of a Committee to carry into Execution, the 11th Article of the Association Agreement of the Grand Continental Congress lately held in Philadelphia.
