Born in Pozen, Prussia, 1839. Came to America with his parents in 1865, settling in Marquette county. Some years later the family removed to Eau Claire county taking up a homestead in Fall Creek. Feb. 27 1865 Mr. Bartz joined the Army, co. G 48th Wi. inf., and served with distinction until discharge Dec. 30 1865. After the war he returned to Fall Creek, and in 1878 started a general mercantile and grain business. The firm name Bartz, Zemple and Bartz is well known. Mr. Bartz was nominated for state treasurer by the Democratic comittee.
Mr. Bartz, twice married, 12 children, 6 by each wife. The second wife survives her husband, also 3 brothers, 2 sisters
