Born Oct. 25, 1930, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of Hugh and Gladys Bumgarner Sigmon.
She has lived in Hickory her entire life and was married to Ted Travis for 45 years. Ted passed away in 1993.
She worked at Lane/Venture for many years before retiring in 1996.
Betty was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She wanted to be part of a church closer to home, and joined Church of the Master UCC in 1963. She liked puzzles and games and loved to travel after retiring. Betty has been involved at Church of the Master as a Sunday school teacher and has helped with youth fellowship. She has been a member of Women's Fellowship and served on the Consistory. She also was a member of the search committee for a pastor. A favorite hymn Betty liked to hear and sing is "I'm But a Stranger Here." Her favorite verse of scripture is Psalm 23. Betty liked Church of the Master because the people here are truly friendly and there is lots of Christian fellowship through the word of God.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Gladys Bumgarner Sigmon, and a great-grandson, Ethan Michael Marsh.
