Funeral services for Betty Sue Brooks, 76, will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Brown's Durant Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Jeremy Parham officiating.

Betty was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Colbert. Betty was born July 30, 1931, in Roberta, Oklahoma (Bryan County) to George and Margaret (Putman) Whisenhunt. She married Samuel Edward Brooks on August 8, 1953. She spent many years with her husband raising their six children, working in the fields and orchards from Oklahoma to California, and spent numerous years working in food service before retiring in July 2001. She was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed having Easter egg hunts and picnics at Ft. Washita with her grand and great-grandchildren, spending time outdoors, gardening, cooking, tending to her animals, and spending time with her family. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Michael, Clifford, and Larry Brooks and Edwin Mack; sister Faye Keller; brothers, R.A. and Calvin Whisenhunt; and twin great-grandchildren Ethan and Ariel Burnett. Betty is survived by her children, Brenda Swafford of Bennington, Patty Burnett of Springfield, Missouri, and Terry Brooks and wife Betsy of Milburn, brother Floyd Whisenhunt and wife Evelyn of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter-in-laws Kathy Wood and Melinda Whitley; 13 grandchildren Dana Coker and husband Jeremy, Kimberly Brock and husband Craig, Darla Ellett and husband Blaine, James Burnett and wife Courtney, Michael Burnett Jr., Taylor Brooks, Jessica Cribbs and husband Lucas, John McCann and wife Kim, West Lee McCann and wife Amanda, Casey Vaughn, James Vaughn and wife Ashley, David Vaughn and wife Gina, and Amy Barbee; 35 great-grandchildren Cameron Teal and wife Ashley, Jeromy Teal, Ethan Ty and Dayla Jo Coker, Cecilia Miller, Pakanli Brock, Blaine and Haylee Ellett, Jeremy, Jacob, and Jaron Burnett, Emily McKay, Brandon Burnett, Jennifer, Emily, and Tiffany Burnett, Tristen, Morgan, Aven, and Maddie Cribbs, Johnny McCann, Bruce and Brittney Tolle, Keiren and Ian McCann, Lauren and Shelby Dearborn, Blake Vaughn, Weslee Lynn, and Justin, Haylee and Hannah Barbee one great-great-grandchild Kelton Blake Teal; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Interment will be in Highland Cemetery with Michael Burnett Jr, James Burnett, Casey Vaughn, David Vaughn, James Vaughn, Jeremy Coker, Blaine Ellett, Craig Brock, and Lucas Cribbs serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Swafford, Mike Burnett Sr., West Lee McCann and John McCann. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Brown's Durant Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
