John Rudolf Meili was the son of Swiss immigrants, Rudolf and Barbara Leinhard Meili. He was born on the family homestead in Golden Belt township, Lincoln County, KS. He attended Spring Valley School, District No. 11. In 1914 he moved to Beverly, KS and opened the Meili Garage. He was an auto mechanic and implement dealer. On August 24, 1924, he married Nancy Esther Miller. They had three children: Mary Jane Meili Day, Barbara Jean Meili Smith, and William John "Jack" Meili. John retired in 1952 when his son Jack bought the business. He was 81 years old when he passed away.
