Alton Ray Adams, surrounded by his family and comforted by the love and prayers of all who knew him, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Adams; his children, Sherrie Bruce and her husband Bobby of
Corsicana, Alecia Bland and her husband Boux of Red Oak, Scott Adams and wife Kim of Houston, Micheal Adams of Italy, Steven Huffman and wife Jennifer of San Antonio and Lance Huffman of Dawson; as well as two brothers, Lester Adams and
wife Nan of Waco and Charles Adams and his wife Dorothy of Italy. He will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Hunt, Chelsey Richards, Caitlin Hunt, Jennifer Bruce, Jillian Bruce, Spence Adams, Annie Adams, Sydney McDowell, Wyatt Adams, Ashley Adams, Hanna Russell,
Hunter Bland and Abby Bland, Tristen and Braeden Richards and Liberty McDowell.

A man of varied interests and basic values, Ray filled his days with family, community service and riding his motorcycle. A longtime business owner in Frost, he was the owner of Adams' Grocery and Market for nearly 15 years. He
served the Frost School District for many years as a school board member, and later as a director of maintenance, and school bus driver.

Born in Ike on Oct. 31, 1936, he lived in Milford and Waco before graduating from La Vega High School. After school he enlisted and served in the United States Marines in Korea. He was a member of the Italy Masonic Lodge and Frost Baptist Church.

One of his greatest joys was the privilege of riding his motorcycle with the Patriot
Guard at the services held for our fallen mililtary heroes.Ray Adams was a common man of uncommon faith, courage and sensitivity. He loved God, his family, his country, and his community.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Frost High School with the Rev. Lester Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Frost Cemetery.
