Last Rites For Arch D Fuller

Word has been received for the death of Arch D Fuller, long-time resident of Pateros, who passed away at the California home of his daughter, where he had gone to escape the winter weather here.

Arch Fuller was born February 28, 1870 in Illinois. He came to Pateros in 1900 and built the Fuller homestead just above the high school. He married Rose Yandell and six children were born to the union. One son, Riley, preceded his father in death. Two daughters live in Pateros, one daughter in Seattle and his son Frank, is also a Pateros resident. Funeral services were held in the Pateros Methodist Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.

------------------------------------------
Some pioneer history of Pateros

Archie and Rosa homesteaded just above existing Pateros. Their house sat up on the hill over looking the rivers. There were neither roads nor railroads at the time. Everything came up from Wenatchee on the Steamboat.

They donated part of their homestead to the city, to be used as a cemetery. They were given gravesites in return and that is where they now rest.

Archie was very proficient in the Indian Language and was often called upon to be an interpreter, for nay or all of them including Chief Joseph. It was not uncommon therefore for the family to wake up to find Indians awaiting them on the porch.

When some local roads were built Archie was loaned, by his boss, a Model T truck. He drove it home and then had to drive it around in a circle until it ran out of gas because he "Didn't know how to shut the damned thing off".
