Billye Meyer
April 19, 1917 - May 18, 2006
Meyer, Billye (Sweetie), was born on April 19, 1917 in Boswell, Oklahoma to Ella and Walter Lee. Her father was a Cherokee Indian and worked as a farmer, Ella was a midwife. She had three sisters and one brother all predeceased.

When she was a small child her family moved to Paris, Texas and there she attended school. This was in the height of the depression and Billye was called upon to move to Richardson, Texas at the young age of 14 to help a family who had a very ill mother with a lot of children. She cared for the household, cooking and sharing her love for three years. She became very active in the community and met Lester Florence Meyer, a Christian man who worked in a print shop. They fell in love and married on August 25, 1935. Their life together was a story book of happiness and dedication to each other and their three children.

Lester and Billye were married 55 years when Lester passed away. They were frequently seen holding hands on their way to the United Methodist Church and shared their faith in God and helping others through many organizations for the community of Richardson. Billye's family, the Methodist Church and banking were her first priorities. She began her career more than 50 years ago, belonging to more than 30 organizations, all with one common goal which was devotion to loving people. She "created" her new position at the bank as "public relations" always known as the "Hat Lady." Her career in banking grew to be an Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors. In the early years of Richardson's boom she walked door to door welcoming newcomers to the community delivering "ice cream checks," printed by her husband, Lester to be redeemed at the local ice cream fountain for opening a bank account at Citizens Bank and offering a hand of friendship, always wearing a dashing hat. Lester and Billye were very proud of their three children: Jim Meyer(deceased) and two daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Billye and Lester were adopted very young by the Archie and Pearl Wylie family and shared their beliefs in building strong family with unity and Christian love. Loving her family, education, banking and being active building a beautiful community became Billye's passion for life. She always encouraged her children and others to seek out their goals, have courage and build their dreams with an attitude of "The sky is the limit."

When the church needed new Bibles, or a new building she was always there to share her faith "of a mustard seed" and build a congregation of dedication to the mission of faith, prayer and a lot of determination. She never met a stranger and never refused a request if it was in her power to grant it. She always succeeded at whatever the need and would roll up her sleeves and organize the group to accomplish their goals.

Billye was a master at leadership, if she believed in the "cause" you could count on her strength to see the triumph of victory. She based her foundation of success on courage, pride and faith in God. Always with a smile, warm greeting and sincere desire to help others was how she based her life of giving to others. She accomplished all with great pride, spirit, excitement for life, enthusiasm and a zest for helping others. Billye will truly be missed in our world, but her legend and memory will never be forgotten through her multitude of accomplishments for those who benefited from her guidance, encouragement and love.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from 5-8PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. Services will be Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 1PM at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 534 W. Beltline Road, Richardson, Texas.
