WARD FAMILY HISTORY READ AT REUNION:
The following history of the Ward family was read at the twentieth annual reunion held at Emery Park, Sunday, July 16. On Monday, August 2, 1920, about eighty descendants of Thomas and Susannah Kelner Ward met at Chafee I.O.O.F. Hall for their first reunion.
Mr. Ward was born in Ireland. His wife was a native of Germany. They moved to the town of Sardinia from Champion, Jefferson County, N. Y., in 1818 or 1819 and settled on Shepherd Hill on what was formerly the Addison Wheelock farm. They made the trip with oxcarts.
Mr. and Mrs. Ward had ten children, three of whom died in infancy. The seven who survived were: Nancy, who married Jonathan Thomas and lived in Holland; Polly who married Rufus Hawks of Holland; Lawrence C , who married Rebecca Brown and lived near Grand Rapids, Mich.; William who married Druzilla Ballard and resided in Holland; Rosannah, who married Avertia O'Dell of Holland; Roger P., who married Luanda Avery and lived in Holland and Eliza, who married George Sweet of Pennsylvania. Thirty children were born to these seven families, nine of whom are still living. --July 28, 1939, Arcade Herald
