Darke County Farmer Dies

James W. Markwith, a lifelong resident of Darke Co., died at his home one mile north of Greenville at 9:20 o'clock Tuesday night at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 4 days.

"J.W." or "Jim" as he was familiarly known, was born Feb. 21, 1853 in Neave Township.

He was one of a family of eleven children of James J. and Barbara Markwith.

On August 6, 1883, he was united in marriage to Flora E. Nealeigh by Rev. Wm. Nealeigh, to which union three children were born, W. R. Markwith of Greenville, Helen Betty Ohnesorgen of Cincinnati, and Lucile E. Martin of Columbus. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

At the age of four years, he moved with his parents to the old Markwith homestead near Jaysville, where he resided until 1913, then moved to Greenville where he lived three years, after which he moved to his present home north of Greenville.

He is survived by two brothers, G. A. L. Markwith of Marion, Ohio, Dr. A. F. Markwith of Greenville, and two sisters, Martha J. Crider of Toledo, Ohio and Hannah Belle Frazier of Union City, Ind.

Funeral will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Youmans will officiate. Burial will be in the Abbottsville cemetery.
