Wife of Grover L. Lanning. Daughter of James & Tempie Conner Crawford. She was born in Buncombe Co. N.C. According to her birth certificate she passed away in Gastonia NC from Pulmonary Edema, at the age of 67. Survived by six sisters: Daisy Roark of Union, Florence Allison of Old Fork, NC, Mrs. Dolly Head of Rock Hill, Mr. Ruby Dover of Gastonia, NC, a step-brother, Harry E. Cannon. Her brother, Noah Richard Crawford died in Arcadia on May 17, 1942. She was the mother of Paul Lanning (Rome,GA ), Ruth Lanning Fortner (Jay), Mildred Lanning Lockridge (Roy), Ruby Jane Lanning Hines (Paul). Predeceased in death by the following children: daughter, Mae; son, James Woodrow; Twins Elsie & Evert, Mary & Martha (all but two are buried at Corinth Baptist Cemetery, Leicester, NC). Cora Bessie was my great-grandmother, the mother of my grandmother, Ruby Hines. Ruby was twin sister to Ruth. They were the only surviving twins. My grandmother was the last child of Grover and Cora Bessie's to pass away. She is missed greatly. My mother is Margaret Alice Hines Williams. She is Grandma Hines baby girl. Other children of my Grandmother Ruby include Gerldine Jordan, JoAnn Lemmons, Betty Carol, and William (Billy) Hines. Her oldest son, Paul James Hines passed away two weeks ago. Her son, Robert Claude (Bobby) Hines passed away in Nov. 2007. Her youngest two boys are Clyde and Charles. Grandma Ruby's oldest daughter Nellie Jane Dorris Hines died from injuries she received in a fire at the age of eight. My Grandmother often spoke of her parents with great fondness and I learned early in life her parents were godly Christians. I and many other family members are a product of their prayers! My mother and grandmother often talked about how Great-Grandma Lanning could sit down at a piano and play anything just by listening to it. She never had a piano lesson in her life. I look forward to meeting her and Grandfather Lanning! [Edit Bio]
