OKOLONA - Tommie Lee Bowens Sr., 87, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona. A native of Clay County, he was born Sept. 17, 1918, to Lonnie Bowens Sr. and Louisanna Stephens Bowens. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Clark Chapel M.B. Church. He loved his family and people, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farm work.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clark Chapel M.B. Church. Dr. L.C. Cook will officiate, and the Rev. Lonnie White will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Clark Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Tommie Lee Bowens Jr. (Earnestine) of Okolona; one daughter, Virginia Irvin of Miami, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Bowens of Tupelo; one sister, Annie Bell Bowens-Wise of Okolona; one brother, Jim Bowens of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Kirk Bowens; a son, Roosevelt Bowens; and a daughter, Chester Mae Bowens-Stovall.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church in Okolona.
