Stella came from a large family and married Leslie Hammer (family name listed as Hamner in 1910 census). I was told after they married, she raised Leslie's brothers & sisters after his mother died. The had a lot of children themselves - 11. A 12th died soon after birth. They farmed in Oklahoma, then left when my father was 11 yrs & moved to California to plant peaches & plums in Cherry Valley. They lost one child at birth and their oldest son, after he came home from WW2, in a car accident.
She loved her family, cooking & baking all the time - her bread was the BEST!! We would visit & make hand-cranked ice cream & eat fallen fruit in the orchard. She made feather pillows from chicken feathers. I saw her kill a chicken for dinner once. She made quilts for everyone - every year! for usually 3 grandkids per each of her kids and gave some away for charity as well! She had a home-made doll that, if I was good, I could play with it on her bed for a while. She made sock monkeys. She always had a smile. She loved God & prayed often.

Her great-grandson from daughter Frances Hammer Hansen from grandson Eric Hansen
Paul A Hansen (1976-1984)
