Thomas J. Scott, farmer and merchant,of Lewis, was born in Vigo Co, IN,28 Oct 1846, son of Levi Scott and Mahala Liston Scott. His grandfather William Liston was one of the first settlers of Vigo Co, in 1846, and was one of the organizers of Union Baptist Church in Pierson Township.

Thomas married Elizabeth Bailey 25 May 1868. They had one son and one daughter. He taught several terms at surrounding schools. He was a senior partner in the firm of Scott & Hooker in a drug and general store business in Centreville, started 6 Nov 1879.

He owned 50 acres of land in Section 3, Sullivan County.__
