Born in Germany, son of Franz Joseph Zieger and Elizabeth Ault Zieger. He and his family immigrated in 1852 when he was 3 years old. His family settled in Pacific, MO, where he was raised.

Married Emily (Amelia) Brudick, May 26, 1876. With Emily, he had five children; William E., Mary F., Henry C., Joseph, and Frederick (Felix). Emily died in June, 1894, leaving Felix with 4 young children. (Henry had died as an infant.) He also had responsibility for his nieces; Elsa and Celeste Arnold.

Sometime in the 1880s, Felix moved his family to St. Louis.

June 3, 1900, Felix married Mary E. Rose who had been living next door with her brother.

Felix worked for the Frisco Railroad, working in various capacities, finally becoming a foreman in the car department. His desire for independence led him to establish a contracting company, where he was quite successful.
