Donald D. Phend, 84, of 409 S. Chauncey St., Columbia City, died at 12:04 a.m. today, July 7, 1987, at Whitley County Memorial Hospital. He had been hospitalized since Sunday.
Mr. Phend was born Jan. 1, 1903, to Henry and Susan Yarian Phend. His marriage was on Sept. 5, 1932, to Heneretta Nelson. Mrs. Phend died on July 18, 1984. He was a member of Columbia City Eagles Lodge 1906 and was recognized in 1979 as being a 50-year member.
Surviving are two sons: Richard Lee Phend of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Donald D. Phend of R 2, Leesburg; three daughters: Mrs. David (Pat) Katt of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Don (Judy) Parkinson of Wolf Lake, and Mrs. Ben (Sally) Black of Leesburg. There are 19 granchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers: Gerald 'Dufty' Phend of Columbia City, Cecil Phend of Merriam and Victor Phend of Larwill; a sister, Mrs. Berniece Holderman of California. Four brothers and a sister are deceased.
Friends may call at Hollingsworth Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 1 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. The service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Private committal rites will be conducted at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
