Sarah Ann Neal Thomas History

Sarah Ann Neal Thomas was the great grand daughter of James and Priscilla Neal. James died in Montgomery county, in 1806. Sarah Ann’s grand father was Thomas “JT” Neel/Neal probably a Jr., James Thomas Neal. Her great aunt Monneyca/Monica Neal lived next door to her brother Thomas “JT” Neel in the 1820 Emanuel Co. Ga., census with husband John Byrd/Bird. Sarah Ann’s parents were Daniel and Sarah Neal/Niel. Sarah Ann’s brother was John Neal/Neill and his wife was Martha Ann Douglas daughter of William Douglas. John and Sarah Ann Neal’s other great uncles and aunts were: Elias, Emanuel County, Arthur, Montgomery County, Britian, and Amy, Monneyca/Monica, Emanuel County.

Thomas “JT” Neel/Neal, born in the 1770’s died after 1820, in Emanuel Co. Ga. He was the son of James born 1748, died 1806 Montgomery Co. Ga. and Priscilla Neal. James and Priscilla sold land in St. Paul Parrish, Ga. in 1773 to Peter Youngblood. Thomas had at least one son name Daniel Neal/Neel born around 1800, and died as a young man before 1827.

Sarah Ann Neal’s mother Sarah Niel/Neal was born about 1800, she is listed as head of household in the 1830 Emanuel County, Ga., census living in her father-in-law Thomas Neel’s/Neal’s house. Thomas has deceased 1830 and Sarah was living with her two children John Neal/Neill, born 1821, died After 1862, and Sarah Ann Neal, born 1826, her tombstone says born 1828, died 1898. Before the 1840, Emanuel Co. Ga., census Sarah Neal married Moses Thomas who was listed as her son John Neal’s guardian in 1837, Noah Tyson was listed as John’s guardian in 1836.

Sarah Ann Neal married Manning Thomas on Oct. 24, 1848, Manning was a farmer and primitive baptist preacher. Sarah Ann Neal Thomas’ nephew William Daniel Neal, her brother John Neal/Neill’s oldest son is also buried at Silver Leaf Cemetery. William Daniel Neal’s oldest son John Henry Neal born 1882, died 1954, is buried at Dodges Chapel Church, Neilly, Lumber City, Ga. John Henry Neal’s son Robert Euris Neal Sr., born 1907, died 1971, is buried at Telfair Memorial Gardens, McRae, Ga.
