GALENA, KANSAS: Marjorie Merrill Watkins, 77, 808 Main St. died at 7:01 pm, Thursday, June 7, 2001 at Freeman Hospital – West, Joplin, MO. following a sudden illness.

Marjorie was born June 16, 1923 at Galena, KS. Her parents were Alfred and Iva (Keyes) Ford.

She was a lifetime resident of Galena.

She retired in 1989 as a cashier at the West 7th St. WalMart, Joplin, MO after working there for 8 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Galena, KS.

Her hobbies included Crocheting and Sewing.

Surviving are two sons, Bob Merrill, Joplin, MO and Billy Watkins, Pittsburg, KS; three daughters, Beverly Bruce, Joplin, MO, Sharon Merrill, Pittsburg, KS, and Donna Anderson, Galena, KS; two brothers, Jack Ford, Galena, KS, and Bill Ford, Oak Creek, WI; four sisters, Ailene [Allyne] Cheek, Dallas, TX, Fern Morey, Breckenridge, TX, Louise Sharp, Colorado Springs, CO, and Helen Hudson, Salina, OK; her close friend, Wilma VanTrease, Joplin, MO; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 2 great-step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Rayma Jean Ford.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 11, at the funeral home. Tracey Rowe will be the minister.

Pallbearers will be Larry Anderson, Mike Anderson, B. J. Watkins, Edward Kelly, Randy McKay, and Marc Hudson.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, Donna Anderson at 613 Columbus St. Galena, KS.

Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Merrill of Joplin and Billy Watkins of Pittsburg; three daughters, Beverly Bruce of Joplin, Sharon Merrill of Pittsburg and Donna Anderson of Galena; two brothers, Jack Ford of Galena, and Bill Ford of Oak Creek, Wis.; four sisters, Ailene Cheek of Dallas, Fern Morey of Breckenridge, Texas, Louise Sharp of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Helen Hudson of Salina, Okla.; her close friend, Wilma VanTrease of Joplin; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Derfelt Funeral Home, with Minister Tracey Rowe officiating.
