Don Anderson served in the Merchant Marines in WWII in 1943-1946 in the North African and European Theaters. Don joined the service June 2, 1943. He served on several Victory ships, transporting ammunition and troops and his job was engine maintenance. He also went to China, the Phillipines, Iraq and Iran. He returned to the United States aboard the Victory Ship the "Peter J. McGuire". He enjoyed auto mechanics and after working several years as the service manager in a car dealership, he started his own garage business which he enjoyed until he decided to work as a credit analyst for Dun & Bradstreet. He retired after 10 years from that job due to health problems but enjoyed camping, fishing and working on cars and electronics in his spare time. In later years, he and his wife, Barbara, wintered in Florida until they moved there permanently in 2002.

Don was the son of Ernest S. and Irene Turnquist Anderson. He was the husband of Barbara Plott Anderson and the father of three children, Debra, Karin and Steven. He had four grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Jeremy and Jenisse, and two great grandchildren, MacKenzie and Riley. Don died after a two year battle with lung and bone cancer shortly after moving to Florida.
