William Bigler LaBorde was born 15 July 1857 in Green County, Wisconsin, and died 12 June 1937 in Neligh, Nebraska. His parents were Philip and Charlotte (Rishel) LaBorde who named him after William Bigler, the Pennsylvania Governor 1852-1855 and U.S. Senator 1856-1861. (William Bigler and Philip LaBorde were both logging the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in the mid 1850s.) When William Bigler LaBorde was two his parents moved south across the Wisconsin/Illinois state line into Stephenson County, Illinois, where they farmed along with his paternal grandparents, David and Catharine J. (Arnold) LaBorde, until he was 16 years of age. In 1873 they traveled by wagon to Sarpy County, Nebraska where William's father Philip had purchased a 149.5 acre farm on the southeast side of today's town of Gretna. Beginning as a family cemetery in 1875, Gretna's LaBorde Cemetery was the northwest acre of Phlip's farm.

William married Sarah Catherine Rishel 4 Jan 1883 in Peach Grove, Nebraska. They had six children all born in Sarpy County. They lived at Gretna until 1908 and moved to a farm in Antelope County in the vicinity known as the Willow.

In 1916 they moved into the town of Neligh and retired from active farming. At his death he was survived by his wife and children, four sons, two daughters; one sister; 29 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
