GILMER - Funeral services for Edith Townsend Lester, 81, of the New Bethlehem Community will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer, with her grandson, the Rev. Brett Lester officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park of Gilmer. Arrangements are under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
Mrs. Lester passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
Mrs. Lester was born July 6, 1927, in Upshur County, to William Andrew Townsend and Madline Fikes Townsend. She was raised in the Indian Rock Community and was one of nine children. She married Leon David Lester on January 19, 1946. She was a longtime member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; and her husband of 43 years.
She is survived by two sons, Andy Lester and wife, Sue of Conroe, and David Lester and wife, Marie of New Bethlehem; and six grandchildren, Brett Lester and wife, Joy of Aledo, Bethany Bland and husband, Jonathan of Pearland, Abbie Lester of Houston, Amanda Lester of Gilmer, Emily Lester of Gilmer, and Bonnie Venable and husband, Travis of Tomball. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister, Avis Howard of Houston; brother, Billy Townsend and wife, Yvonne of White Oak; Jimmie Muckleroy of White Oak; as well as other family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. this evening, July 10, 2008, at Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer.
