TUPELO - Thomas "Tom" Elliott, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006. A native of Smithville, he was born April 5, 1945, to the late Eugene and Alma Prestridge Elliott. He graduated from Smithville High School. He received his associate's degree from Itawamba Junior College, and his bachelor of science degree and master of education in guidance and counseling degree from Mississippi State University. He did postgraduate work at the University of Mississippi. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1969, he served 26 years in the Mississippi Army National Guard, HHC 155th BDE, HHC 1st BN 195th Aviation and Company K 185th Aviation, receiving 31 ribbons and medals during this time. He worked with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission for 38 years. He was a board member of the Prairie Girl Scout Council. He was a member of the Retired Volunteer Police Force and the American Legion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shannon and attended The Orchard United Methodist Congregation.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at The Orchard United Methodist Congregation with the Rev. Jonathan Childress and the Rev. Mike Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Chickasaw County.

Pallbearers will be members of the military.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
