Julia Ann Whiting was born Feb 20th, 1833 near Bangor, Maine. When five years of age, she with her parents moved to Boone County, Ill, where she resided until Feb 20, 1856 when she was united in marriage to LF Goodwin and with him came to Bremer County, in the following spring where they lived until Mr. Goodwin's death which occurred May 7, 1881. To this union eight children were born, of whom still living, one, little Sarah, died when two years old. Two years after the death of her husband she took her children and moved to Sherman County, Neb., where she lived for eighteen years, when with her youngest son, Levi, she returned to Iowa and resided at Nashua with him until her death, which occurred March 16, 1918 at the ripe old age of 85 years and 24 days. She leaves to mourn her loss the seven children, Mrs. Ellen Sherman, St Ansgar, Iowa, Henry and Mrs. Alvira Daddon, of Loup City, Neb., Luther of Republic, Levi of Nashua, Lucindia Sweetland and Adella Daddon of Loup City, Neb., two brothers, Luther Whiting of Frankfort, Ky, and Albert Whiting of San Diego, Cal also twenty four grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends.
When quite a young girl she united with the Baptist church and tried throughout her whole life to walk worthily of the Master, whom she had acknowledge as her Lord. Our sympathy is extended to the sorrowing children and relatives in this hour of sorrow. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 19, at the ME Church at Republic with interment in Alcock Cemetery.
