A. F. Hickman, who has been ill for a long time, died at his home in Empire City Thursday night. The deceased was an old and highly respected citizen whose death will be mourned by a large circle of friends.

Death of A. F. Hickman.
In the death of A. F. Hickman, brief notice of which appeared in our last issue, our community loses a Worthy citizen and one of the earliest settlers of the camp. The deceased was 59 years old. He came to Joplin when that city was yet in its infancy, and remained there until the discovery of lead at this place, when he came here and has been identified with our interests ever since.
For the past seven years he has been afflicted with consumption, suffering uncomplainingly until death came to his relief.

He leaves a wife and three children Lee, Charley and Allie, all of whom are married and residing here, the latter the wife of Elmer Murray. No words of ours can assuage the grief of the bereaved wife and children. Nothing that friends can say or do will restore the loved father and husband. All that we can do is to extend to them our sympathy in their sorrow, and commend them to that other Father who “doeth all things well.”
