Mrs. Samantha Finton Dies, Funeral Rites Here on Thursday

Mrs. Samantha E. Finton, 76, a former resident of east Hanna street, was found dead in the living room of her home five miles east of New Haven on U.S. highway 24 at approximately 5:15 p.m. Monday. Although she had been in failing health for the past few months due to a heart condition, she had been able to manage her own home. At one o'clock she had visited with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Ramsay who resides in another home only a few feet east of Mrs. Fintons.

She was a native of Taylor Station, Whitley county, and was born on August 11, 1887, a daughter of Joseph and Phoebe Hollycross Loe. Her formative years were spent in the Columbia City community and where she was united in marriage to Ransom Mosher. To this union was born a son, Loren Mosher, who preceded his mother in death on February 27, 1957.

She was later united in marriage to Walter Inks. To this union was born a daughter, Mrs. Ica Ramsay. Mr. Inks, an employe of the Dizler Packing Plant, died in 1921. She was married to Wilford S. Finton on February 11, 1925, and they spent their entire married life at 116 East Hanna street. Mr. Finton preceded her in death on November 10, 1955.

Mrs. Finton was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church; American Auxiliary; Spanish American Auxiliary; the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.

The surviving relatives, in addition to Mrs. Frank Ramsay, R 2 Woodburn, include seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-sons, Steven Finton, Syracuse, Harry Finton, Columbia City, Max Finton, Hobart; four step-daughters, Mrs. Hilda Tucker, Angola, Mrs. Elmer Myron, LaVerne, Calif., Mrs. Albert Weissjohn, Plymouth, Mrs. Albert Miller, Warsaw; three brothers, Elzie Loe, Larwill, Earl Loe, Merriam, Merlin Loe, Big Lake; one sister, Mrs. Lyman Mosher, LaPort.

The body is at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. The Rev. Graham L. Kleespie, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate at the funeral services to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Committal services and burial will follow the funeral home rites in the South Park cemetery.
