Florence Genevieve Allen died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Willowbrook Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center following a short illness. She was born February 22, 1920 to George and Nettie (Sievert) Anacker. Florence was born and raised in Madison. She received a BA in Child Development and worked as a nurse at the UW hospital, Central Colony and hospice care in Madison. She married Elwin H. "Poet" Allen and moved to the Waterloo area. They had one daughter, Beatrice Owen Allen who died in 1999. Her husband, one sister, and two brothers also preceded her in death. Genevieve lived at Jaystone Terrace in Waterloo since 1996. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church-ECLA, a member of Karl Junginger Memorial Library, where she served on the board for many years, and a member of the Waterloo BPW and Yost. She also worked at Kress Packing in their credit union and at Jim's Cheese Pantry for many years. Genevieve loved crocheting, knitting, quilting - teaching classes in Portland. She was an avid traveler visiting many foreign countries. She loved playing cards and various other games. Genevieve wishes were to be cremated and have private graveside rites at Medina Cemetery in Marshall. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 226 E. Madison St., Waterloo, WI 53594 or to Karl Junginger Memorial Library, 625 N. Monroe St., Waterloo, WI 53594.
