WARD HERMAN CULLENS FAMILY
Ward Herman Cullens (1870, date of death unknown) and wife Dolly Captiola (Rumsey) (1872-1952) were parents of seven children: George, Henry, Cecile, Carl, Bertie, Willie and John Ward. The last three were born at Russell Springs. They are all deceased. They came to Logan County in the early 1900's and lived in the Nickel Mine Springs area. They made a shelter near the springs so they could get water, and to wash clothes, etc. Ward dug a cellar which they moved into. Before this they worked for and lived on the Disney Ranch. Ward was a rock mason, so he sawed rocks and built a house over the cellar he had dug. He built several house in Russell Springs including C.R. "Blue" Mastin's, Bill and Luella Cook's and Dave Williams', the Nickel Mine School and others. Carl, the fourth child, had a dog he loved very much. One day the Colorado- Kansas-Oklahoma train came by real slow, the dog jumped on the flat car and the last Carl saw of his dog, he was still riding the flat car. In 1921 they had a sale, sold everything they couldn't load on their Model T Ford and left for California. They later moved to Yelm, Washington. Something else, Mother Cullens had four sisters who married four nephews of Dad Cullens.
