William Garrett Gray was the son of William Isaac and Virginia Jane Marlin Gray of Essex County, New Jersey. Garrett was born 11-17-1813 in Parkersville, (now Lamascol) Caldwell County, KY. He married Margaret Jane Foley, daughter of Mason and Virginia Anderson Foley. Garrett and Margaret were the parents of 9 children: Mason (Mace), William Garrett, Jr. (Bill), Jane, John, Nathan, Lucian, Lamont, Lee and Edward. A farmer and businessman, he owned approximately 2,000 plus acres of land on the Cumberland River, which included Gray’s Landing. He was a slave holder, owning 20 some slaves, who are buried in the south end of this cemetery. Upon Garrett’s death (9-14-1883), he willed each of his children $3000 and a farm.
