Swan A. Hart was born in Sweden, April 9, 1839 and died in Marquette, Kansas, September 18, 1909, at the age of three score years and 10. He came to Illinois with his family in 1868 and two years later located on the farm on Wolf Creek, During the boom days he build the south brick building now owned and occupied by T. J. Collier. Following that the panic came on and crops failed and he lost the building but saved the farm.
In recent years Mr. Hart has lived in town at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter nelson. He suffered more than his share of rheumatism and death was a welcome relief from his pain and helplessness.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church here since it was organized and Rev. Bengtson officiated at his funeral which was largely attended b y his neighbors and friends.
He leaves Mrs. Hart, two daughters and four sons. Three daughters and one son died some years ago. Thus passed from the scene of action another pioneer.

Swan August Hart was born in 1839 in Sweden. He married Lisa Christine Peterson in 1861 in Sweden. They had ten children, nine known children Anna Mathilda who married Carl Gustaf Holt, Johannes(John) August, Emma Christine, Luther Albert, Infant, Hulda Elizabeth, Hulda A, Otto Arthur, and Carl Mauritz. He died September 17, 1909 in Marquette, Kansas. His wife Lisa died January 2, 1926.
Lisa Hart, Hulda E. and Hulda A. Hart and Swan Hart are buried next to each other and Arthur Hart, Carl Mauitz Hart, Emma Christine Hart, John August Hart are also buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Marquette, McPherson County, Kansas.
Swan August Hart was a stone mason and farmer who helped co-found the Wolf Creek School west of Marquette, Kansas. Swan was a charter member of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Marquette. He married Christine Peterson of Smaland Sweden in 1861. He came to Marquette in 1870 and homesteaded on 80 acres 2.5 miles west of Marquette.
