Services for Boyana K. Brown-Redman will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary. Burial will follow at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mrs. Brown-Redman died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at a local medical facility. She was 90.

She was born July 15, 1915, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Radisav and Meleva Kekich. She was the youngest of six children. She attended local schools in Sheridan. In 1935, she moved to Butte, Mont. where she lived with her sister Sophia. In 1940, she moved to California and spent time in Southern California, Avalon on Catalina Island, and in the Concord area. During World War II she was involved with the war effort and working with the American Red Cross, disbursing medicines for wounded soldiers abroad. She and her husband, Ed Brown owned dairy ranches in Franklin and on the Garden Highway near Elk Grove and leased a large cattle ranch near Rumsey. In 1956, she moved to Loomis where she raised and bred horses. She served on PTAs in the Franklin and Loomis school districts and was active in community and civic projects. She served as Placer County Grand Jury Foreman for several terms, and ran local precinct polling booths during elections. She was active in real estate for 25 years in Sacramento and Nevada Counties. She married James Redman in 1983, in Newcastle. She was a 50-year member of the Penryn Chapter No. 159, Order of the Eastern Star and in 1979 served as Worthy Grand Matron of Eastern Start for the State of California. She was active in the Serbian Orthodox Church and with her sister, Sophia Ducich helped establish the St. Sava Mission and camp in Jackson and administered the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Jackson.

She is survived by her husband, James Edmond Redman of Grass Valley; sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Shirley Barbula of Newcastle, Jesse and Syd Brown of Nevada City, Stephen and Gail Brown of Paradise, Jim and Shirley Redman of Fresno, and William and Kathleen Redman of Yucaipa; daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and Larry Salhaney of Yuba City, and Yelena and Bill Holt of Grass Valley; son, Steve Redman of West Sacramento; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jesse Brown Sr.; grandson, Michael Scott Greer; three brothers; and two sisters.
